Reeling from his parents' recent split and the surprise addition of his baby sister Olive, ten-year-old Nico grapples with understanding how his life has been turned upside down. Watching his mother, Caroline, struggle and pining for the attention of his aloof father, Dixon, his confusion shifts to anger: anger directed at Olive, who he suspects is to blame for all the upheaval.
Excited for a visit with his estranged father, Nico faces more disappointment when Dixon seems more interested in his new lady friend than in his son. His father's indifference sparks Nico's memory of a fateful sleepover, revealing a clue to what actually caused his parents' marriage to crumble.
