Reeling from his parents' recent split and the surprise addition of his baby sister Olive, ten-year-old Nico grapples with understanding how his life has been turned upside down. Caught between his mother Caroline’s struggle with unexpected single-parenthood, and pining for the attention of his aloof father Dixon, his confusion shifts to anger: anger focused on Olive, whom he ultimately decides is to blame for all the upheaval.
After Nico has a meltdown when tasked with watching Olive, he finally gets the opportunity to spend time with his estranged father. To his dismay, Dixon seems more interested in his new lady friend than in his son. His father's indifference sparks Nico's memory of a fateful sleepover, revealing what actually caused his parents' marriage to crumble.
